چکیده
A survey conducted by Abiomed, Inc. revealed that 10 of 60 patients who received ventricular assistance via the AB5000 assist device (VAD) experienced hemolysis. The present study was to investigate which factors influence hemolysis under pulsatile-flow VADs such as AB5000. We compared specificity and its driving console with those NIPRO-VAD VCT50χ severe heart failure conditions using a mock circulatory system glycerol water solution. used circuit bovine blood confirm pump were most likely cause In addition, we measured shear velocity particle image velocimetry analyzing seeding motion for both same indicated in initial experiment. BACKGROUND Counter-pulsation control (CPC) by ventricular assist devices (VADs) is believed to reduce cardiac load and increase coronary perfusion. However, patients with VADs have a higher risk of arrhythmia, which may cause the CPC to fail. Consequently, CPC has not been applied by VADs in clinical practice. The phase-locked loop (PLL) algorithm for CPC is readily implemented in VADs; however...

We developed a small, lightweight, low-cost implantable ventricular assist device (VAD) for use in smaller Japanese subjects. The major advantage of this pump is the simplicity of its fabrication. Most parts of the pump were shaped from a transparent acrylic block by a turning process, and the diaphragm was made from a silicon sheet. Since this method of construction did not require any complex...

Heart transplantation provides considerable survival benefits for patients with end-stage heart failure, but it is available for only a small fraction of such patients all over the world due to donor shortage. Therefore, many heart transplant candidates require long-term support by a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) while they await transplantation. However, the long-term LVAD support can ...

The refinement of mechanical cardiac assist devices over the past 50 years largely has been driven by the clinical imperatives to provide reliable circulatory support to patients waiting for cardiac allografts (bridge to transplant) or longterm support for patients with very advanced heart failure (destination therapy). In the course of increasing success with these applications, investigators ...
